DEPUE —DePue School Board members discussed options for a special education bus route for the 2013-14 school year at Wednesday’s meeting.
Superintendent Randy Otto said Johannes Bus of Rock Island, which was hired to provide transportation for the district for the upcoming school year, provided a bid for $56,000 per year for special education transportation.
Otto recommended the board explore the option of purchasing a mini bus, which would be more cost effective for the district in the long run. By law, school districts are required to use a van accommodating 10 or fewer passengers or a mini-bus that transports 20 or fewer passengers. Otto also said the purchase of a mini-bus would enable the district to provide additional transportation for the school’s sports teams.
Additionally, the district will need to hire and certify a driver within the next two weeks.
The board also approved the following:
* The resignation of Shelly Gorenz as guidance counselor and resignation of Claudia Arteaga as junior high special education teacher.
* The hiring of Kim Sheppard as school social worker, hiring of Martha Pedziwiatr as junior high boys soccer head coach and Amber Grenda as school guidance counselor.
