The governor’s office this month announced more than $10.1 Million in capital investments for road and bridge construction projects in Bureau, Kendall and La Salle counties.
The projects will be administered by Illinois Department of Transportation. Julia Messina, spokesman at IDOT District 3 in Ottawa, said contractors have not yet worked out schedules for the starting dates in many cases. She said IDOT’s supervising engineer will likely meet with contractors in August on some of the interstate projects.
Bureau County * A bridge carrying Township Road 398 over Spring Creek just north of Spring Valley will be replaced for $534,284 by D Construction Inc. of Coal City, the lowest of four bidders. * A bridge carrying Township Road 46 over the West Fork of Spoon River about three miles south of Neponset will be replaced for $273,456 by Curnyn Construction Co. of Geneseo, the lowest of five bidders. * Centerline improvements will be made along Interstate 180 from just south of I-80 to 2.2 miles east of Illinois Route 29. Microsurfacing Contractors LLC, a division of Byrne & Jones Enterprise, Inc. of St. Louis was the lowest of two bidders with a quote of $529,665.
Kendall and La Salle counties * Various concrete box culverts along Route 71 between Interstate 80 and Route 47 in La Salle and Kendall counties will be repaired for $350,341 by D Construction, Inc. of Coal City, the lowest of two bidders.
La Salle County * Repairs to the bridge approaches carrying U.S. 6 over Route 251 in Peru will be done by D Construction, Inc. of Coal City, whose quote of $153,929 was the lowest of three bids submitted. Engineer Mike Perry from Chamlin and Associates, said such projects often are completed near the end of the construction season. * Shoulder paving and rumble strip installation will be done along Interstate 39 from one mile north of U.S. 52 to just south of the Lee County line. William Charles Construction Co., LLC of Loves Park submitted the lowest of three bids, $3,049,823. Shoulder repairs and rumble strip installation along other portions of I-39 will be done by Advanced Asphalt Co. of Princeton for $2,980,878, the lowest of three bidders. * Trees, shrubs, plants, sidewalk and fencing will be installed on Route 178 in North Utica from south of Lincoln Street to north of Johnson Street. Copenhaver Construction Inc. of Gilberts submitted the lowest of three bids at $460,983. * Bridge pier repairs will be done to various structures carrying township roads over Interstate 80 in La Salle County. The work will be done by D Construction Inc. of Coal City, the lowest of three bidders at $215,960. * Pavement patching will be done along Interstate 39 and at exit and entrance ramps from the Marshall County line to the Lee County line. G.M. Sipes Construction, Inc. of Rushville was the lowest of three bidders for the work with a quote of $772,336. * The parking areas and access road at the La Salle Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area will be improved for $526,858 by Advanced Asphalt Co. of Princeton, the lowest of four bidders. * A box culvert structure carrying County Highway 19 over First Creek east of Mendota will be replaced for $274,628 by Stark Excavating, Inc. of Bloomington, the lowest of four bidders.
