Sublette board discusses liquor issue

Tamara Abbey
Mendota Bureau Chief

SUBLETTE —Village trustees discussed several potential scenarios involving liquor licenses during the regular board meeting this week.

Village president John Stenzel said Bonnell’s General Store is considering an on-premise liquor license in order to meet state requirements for a video game license. The store currently sells package liquor.

“If they have the on-premise license, they don’t necessarily have to use it,” Stenzel said.
The Sublette Business Association also opened an inquiry into a possible one-day license. Stenzel said members are considering a New Year’s Eve party and fundraiser at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Hall. Stenzel said the group would also need a one-day license from the county and the state.

Appropriations approved
The village approved the 2013-14 appropriations budget of $731,820. Last year the village appropriated $648,800. Stenzel said the increase was due to anticipated street work in the village.
“I know there’s a little bit more for the water department,” Stenzel said. “There are a few projects we’re considering for next year.”
