MENDOTA — Relay For Life of Upper Illinois Valley is seeking hands-on volunteers for a one time volunteer service for an hour or two on July 13.
“This year our setup will require more cancer-fighting hands than ever,” said Tammy Landgraf, RFLUIV logistics chairperson. “With more teams, our electrical layout is larger, but most of all, this year we have a wonderful, large sized event tent donated by Thrivent Financial that requires more people to set it up.”
Setup will begin at 9 a.m. at the soccer and baseball field area of Lake Mendota Park. With many hands, the layout of the electrical system and tent setup should take about an hour-and-a-half.
The set-up committee is hoping to see a large group for setup, from any background including churches, high school sports teams, employee groups and individuals from Peru, La Salle, Mendota and its surrounding communities for a simple, brief, one-time volunteer service.
Volunteers do not need to be Relay team participants.
The portable electrical layout system is provided through sponsorships by the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce, Piller Electric, Springfield Electrical Supply and Ganz Electric. Tables and chairs are sponsored by Mendota True Value.
The survivor dinner is sponsored by Olive Garden of Peru and Cindy’s Restaurant of Mendota, with major setup sponsorships from Phalen Steel, Mauch Carpentry, Affordable Waste, Bowne Equipment, Stuart Tree Service, the City of Mendota, Mendota FFA and Getz Fire Equipment.
