Rebekah Dagraedt, Katie Hoffert, Robert Lentz and Sam Rizzo share the honor of valedictorian for the Hall High School graduating class of 2013. Alex Olivares is the salutatorian this year. Rebekah Dagraedt, daughter of Mark and Julianne Dagraedt of Cherry, plans to attend Illinois Valley Community College and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in pursuit of a degree in physical therapy. Dagraedt has been involved in softball, science club, pep club and Above the Influence Club, and mentors at Hall. She was captain of volleyball and basketball; vice president of her class, Medical Health Careers Club, French Club, and Honorary Activities Club; and currently president of the student council. Dagraedt was named an Illinois State Scholar, Elks Teen of the Month, Wendy’s High School Heisman School Winner, High Honor Roll student, Illinois Principals Association Student Recognition Award recipient, and National Honors Society member. Sharing the valedictorian spotlight is Katie Hoffert, daughter of Lisa and Mark Hoffert of Hollowayville. She is actively involved in National Honor Society, Above the Influence Club and Medical Health Careers Club. She was captain of cheerleading, track, and cross country; vice president of student council; and secretary of Spanish club, science club and Honorary Activities Club. She has been named Illinois State Scholar, Elks Senior of the Month, Most Valuable Player for cross country, and all conference for cross country and track. She was a member of the homecoming court and 1st runner up to Prom Queen. She received the Holland Scholarship at Mount Mercy University, where she plans to major in biology/premed in pursuit of an obstetrics/gynecology career. Robert Lentz, son of Rob and Jackie Lentz of Dalzell, also is this year’s valedictorian. He will attend IVCC. He was involved in science club and Spanish club. He placed third in computer science at the 2012 WYSE Regional and first in computer science in the 2013 regional and advanced to sectionals. He is an Illinois State Scholar, NewsTribune All-Academic Team nominee, high honor roll student and John Ourth Illinois Principals Association Student Recognition Award recipient. Valedictorian Sam Rizzo is the son of Hildi Grivetti and Blake Rizzo, both of Spring Valley. Sam plans to attend the University of Illinois and study mechanical engineering. He was captain of both the scholastic bowl and WYSE teams; president of science club, Spanish club, Honorary Activities Club and National Honor Society; and representative of student council. He was named Illinois State Scholar, HOBY leadership representative, and Sons of the American Revolution Citizenship Award recipient. He was named to the all-Tri-County Conference Scholastic Bowl Team, all-sectional Scholastic Bowl Team, Elks Teen of the Month, and was academic all-conference in football. He was the Coach Nesti Football Award recipient; 2012 Mr. Hall, member of the homecoming court, and 2012 prom king. Hall’s salutatorian is Alex Olivares, son of Stacy and Larry Olivares. He was a member of the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering team, Honorary Activities Club, Advanced Musical Theatre, football, basketball, Spanish club, science club and Medical Health Careers Club. He is an Illinois State Scholar, Daniel Lule football award winner and an Elks Teen of the Month. He placed first in physics at the 2013 regional WYSE competition, advancing to sectionals. Olivares plans to attend University of Iowa to study pre-pharmacy. Jaquelynne Hendricks of Cherry, daughter of Stuart and Kelly Hendricks, was involved in Spanish club, volleyball, Medical Health Careers Club, Leo’s Club, pep club and power mechanics club. She is a Senior of the Year nominee. She will attend IVCC focusing on science. Jacquelyn Petzel plans to study medicine at Stony Brook University in Long Island, N.Y. She has been involved in basketball, volleyball, softball, Spanish club, scholastic bowl, Medical Health Careers Club, WYSE and National Honor Society. Petzel is vice president of French club, president of Leo’s club and was vice president of her freshman class. Jacquelyn is the daughter of Neil and Penny Petzel of Ladd. Drew Lechner is the son of David and Sheri Lechner of Spring Valley. He is a tutor and is actively involved in Spanish club, bowling, basketball, science club, pep club, drama club, choir, Honorary Activities Club, National Honor Society and Above the Influence Club. He was an Illinois State Scholar, Most Improved Bowler, Elks Teen of the Month nominee and Principal’s Choice award winner. Drew was the school mascot and had the lead role in three plays. He plans to attend Iowa State University. He plans to further his education and study weapons designing. Landon Piccatto plans to attend Illinois Wesleyan University where he will play football and study history. He is the son of John and Nancy Piccatto of Ottville. He has been involved in National Honor Society, science club, Medical Health Careers Club, WYSE, Honorary Activities Club, Above the Influence Club and advanced choir. He was track captain, football captain, basketball captain, French Club president, and class president every year. He has been named an Illinois State Scholar, a selected Red and White Chorale member, All Academic All State Football honoree, 2011 Mr. Hall and an Elks Teen of the Month. He was first-team all area and first-team all-Conference in football his junior and senior years. Miguel Aldana of Spring Valley, son of Margarito Aldana and Flora Aldana Garcia, participated in cross country and track and enjoys soccer with friends. His future plans are to go to University of St. Francis in pursuit of a degree in actuarial sciences. Olivia Brandner plans to attend Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville to study pharmacy. She was a member of National Honor Society, pep club, Medical Health Careers Club and science club. She was president of both the drama club and chorus. She is the daughter of Brian and Debra Brandner of Ladd. Valerie Hoffert, daughter of Dennis Hoffert of Spring Valley, participated in National Honor Society, Spanish club, science club, pep club, Leo’s Club and MHCC. She was captain of volleyball and basketball. She plans to attend Eureka College and study elementary education. Alysia Scott, daughter of Michele and Dave Scott of Ladd, plans to attend North Central University and become an elementary teacher. She is a member of National Honor Society, drama club, French Club and science club. She is a bowler, swimmer, tutor and a choir member.
