DePue still waiting for siren grant money

Kim Shute
Bureau County Reporter

DEPUE - DePue village board members heard an all too familiar answer to their ongoing question about the arrival of long promised funds for replacing village emergency sirens: "I don't know".

Village engineer Aaron Full told board members the paperwork is still held up by the state, but he has been in contact with Ragan Communications to start putting together a map for the location of the new sirens. Once that map is in place, the village can begin soliciting bids for the equipment and installation. Although the board members have been advised they can go forward with the siren project, village president Eric Bryant has expressed reluctance to take on a project of that size until the grant money, promised by the state over three years ago, is in place.

 In other news:

  • Board members approved hiring of Mark Olszewski as part time village police officer.
  • The village will donate $500.00 to Hall Twp. Food Pantry's Project Success to go towards Easter Dinner Baskets. The food pantry will provide Easter Dinner for 300 local families.
  • The board unanimously approved the liquor license for the VFW.
