A winter weather advisory was no longer in effect this morning for La Salle, Bureau or Putnam counties, but that didn’t mean travel wasn’t hazardous before sunrise today.
La Salle County Sheriff’s Office already was among the police agencies dealing with weather-related crashes at 9 p.m. Sunday, several hours before ice formed on many roads (and parking lots and sidewalks) after the early-morning hours.
Interstate 39 and other roads at one point this morning south of La Salle and especially north of Bloomington-Normal all were ice- and snow-covered, with Bloomington and its neighboring counties to the east, west and south still under a winter storm warning until after dawn. Some areas nea rBloomington received up to 7 inches of snow or more, and theSt. Louisarea received nearly a foot.
Livingston County was under a winter weather advisory until after dawn today.
Sunny afternoons are forecast for the rest of this week, according to Accuweather (accessible atop the Newstrib site) but until Friday, lows all are forecast below freezing.
