Firefighters host St. Baldrick's fundraiser

NT Staff

MENDOTA — Mendota Firefighters Local 4200 and Main Street Bar & Grill will co-host the seventh annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at 714 Main St., Mendota.

The mission of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is to raise awareness and funds to conquer kids’ cancer. The fundrasier challenges people to get their heads shaved around St. Patrick’s Day.

Cancer is the number one killer of children and Mendota’s firefighters want to help raise awareness and funds to defeat cancer.

St. Baldrick’s started in 2000 when three Irish re-insurance executives in New York City decided to turn their St. Patrick’s Day party into a benefit for a good cause. They combined St. Patrick’s Day with bald to come up with the fundraiser.
Firefighters are now seeking individuals to join them in going bald while raising money. All money raised will go directly to St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Individuals ready to be shaved, interested in starting a team or sponsor a team can sign up at www.stbaldricks.org under event E42, Mendota Firefighter Local 4200.

Checks or donations also can be dropped off or mailed to the Mendota Fire Department, 610 Main St., Mendota. Checks must be made out to St. Baldrick’s Foundation. For more information, call the department at (815) 539-3434.
