NT Staff

PRINCETON — Singer/guitarist “Lost Jim” (Jim Ohlschmidt) will take to the Princeton Coffeehouse stage at Open Prairie, UCC, 25 E. Marion, Princeton at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to his own original compositions, he is well known for performing the songs and honoring the legacy of famous blues musician, Mississippi John Hurt.
A veteran performer, Ohlschmidt has recorded seven solo CDs and four CDs of songs by Mississippi John Hurt. He recorded his first solo guitar album, “Behind the Eye,” in 1976. For the next few years, he was periodically a guest instrumentalist on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” radio show.

Based in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area for decades, Ohlschmidt is a native of Sheboygan, Wis.

Since 2005, Ohlschmidt has been a regular performer and emcee at the annual summer music festival in Avalon, Miss., that honors Hurt and his music. Ohlschmidt’s latest album of Hurt’s music, “Satisfied: Lost Jim Plays & Sings Mississippi John Hurt, Vol. 4,” features duets with guitarist Stefan Grossman.

Admission is $12 at the door. The venue is wheelchair-accessible and there is ample free parking nearby. Coffee, tea and desserts are available.
