IVCC selling commemorative bricks as fundraiser

NT Staff

The Illinois Valley Community College Board’s facilities committee met Wednesday morning to review several projects including IVCC Cultural Centre upgrades such as replacement of the stage floor.

In addition, the committee discussed contracting with an outside firm for the process of purchasing furniture for the Peter Miller Community Technology Center and agreed not to recommend repairing the failed dam at the college pond southwest of the gym at this time, although appropriate safety measures will be implemented immediately.

Two proposals have been received to assist the college with CTC furniture procurement and preparation of bid documents. Basalay Cary & Alstadt Architects of Ottawa, CTC project architects, and Demonica Kemper Architects of Chicago each submitted proposals. The full board will consider the proposals next week.

Finally, the committee will recommend enhancement to the CTC main entrance to include thousands of commemorative named bricks purchased by private donors. The brick paver initiative will be launched this spring and is part of the $2.1 million CTC capital campaign.

Cultural Centre issues
The cost of replacing the auditorium stage, constructed in 1979, is estimated at $111,013 and is a Protection, Health and Safety project. Years of heavy use and set fastening have cracked and splintered the stage surface. The project will be considered by the full board Jan. 15.
The committee also examined long-term Cultural Centre improvements such as replacement of the sound system ($394,800), lighting system ($327,200), pre-function space lighting ($44,400), stage rigging ($423,850), removable stage extension over the orchestra pit ($48,000), replacement of the movable partitions that divide the auditorium into three sections ($212,175) and installation of wireless access points.
