STREATOR — The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office, Streator Fire Department and Streator Police Department have begun a joint investigation after a fire Tuesday afternoon that killed a 62-year-old man in the 500 block of South Vermillion Street in Streator.
Brent L. Voorhees of513 S. Vermillion St., Streator was pronounced dead at the scene, after suffering fatal injuries as a result of the incident, said Sgt. Robert L. Turner, Streator police detective.
Streator police and fire departments were called at 3:49 p.m. and arrived to see flames coming from a window at the rear of the residence.
Search and rescue operations were conducted and located Voorhees. An autopsy was scheduled today in Will County Morgue to determine the cause of death.
“It appears the fire originated on the interior of the dwelling. It is unclear if there were any operable smoke detectors in the dwelling,” a press release stated. “This fire does not appear to be related to the string of arsons that have occurred in Streator since spring 2011.”
