Old-fashioned trip through town

Mikayla Van Wingerden of Granville caused a stir Wednesday afternoon as she rode her horse, Montana, around downtown Spring Valley. Van Wingerden drove the horse in a trailer over the Route 89 bridge, parking at Barto Landing, before taking the horse for a leisurely stroll that included a break to let local children pet the horse, and a trip through McDonald’s drive-through for a smoothie. “They thought it was awesome,” Van Wingerden said of the employees’ reaction to her unusual form of transportation.
