Bureau County Relay for Life returns to Hall Friday

Relay for Life of Bureau County will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Hall High School in Spring Valley.

The event will feature laps dedicated to those specifically battling with certain aspects of cancer, including survivors and caregivers. 

The opening ceremony will bring all relay participants together to start off the event celebrating the lives of those who have battled cancer. 

Celebration laps on the track
Following the opening ceremony several other laps and ceremonies will take place: 

- Survivors lap and celebration — All cancer survivors at the event will take the first lap.  

- Caregivers lap — Anyone who has cared or is caring walks a lap with the people they have helped to be honored for their support. 

- Luminaria ceremony — This ceremony is a time during the event to remember the people who have lost the battle to cancer, to support people who are currently battling the disease and to honor those who have won their battle. 

- Fight back ceremony — During this ceremony in the event, relay attendees make the commitment to fight against cancer.

The event is wrapped up with a closing ceremony to remember those lost to cancer and to celebrate the commitment attendees have made through the participation of the Relay event.

According to the Relay for Life of Bureau County website, participants have already raised more than $11,000.
