Information still wanted on Walnut abduction attempt

Kim Shute
Bureau County Reporter

WALNUT — Few leads have come forward, but Walnut police are still searching for more information on an attempted child abduction reported on Main Street Thursday evening.

“We’re still hoping for more leads,” said Walnut police chief Tom Ptasnik. “Anything that anyone might have seen will help. I don’t want this to go away — I want to find this guy.”

As reported by the NewsTribune, an 11-year-old girl riding her bike with friends around 9 p.m. Thursday was approached by a man in a silver-gray van after the girl hurt her leg and sent her friends on without her. The man grabbed the girl in the 100 block of Main Street but dropped her after she began screaming and kicking him.

Ptasnik said a witness reported seeing the van about 10 minutes prior to the incident and was able to provide a more detailed description of the van. The man was described as 50ish with black hair and no facial hair or distinguishing marks or scars. He was wearing jeans and a black T-shirt with a gray circle and white design within the circle.
