Deputies, police watching Route 18

MAGNOLIA — Routes 18 and 89 remained busy routes with lots of traffic heading toward a three-day concert at Two Sisters Park in Chillicothe. That traffic was greeted by a heavy police presence throughout the day and evening Friday.

Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team was involved in the detail, says Putnam County's sheriff.

PutnamCountyhad patrols working those routes, as did Lostant Police Department, which patrols HopeTownshipin southwestern La Salle County, according to La Salle County Sheriff’s Office. Streator, too, turns its attention to Route 18 before the concert.

La Salle and Putnam County officers had given several motorists notices to appear in court for alleged drug possession. Their reports and paperwork had not been filed as of 11 p.m. Friday.



Accidents under investigation

OTTAWA— Reports were unavailable at press time Friday, but La Salle County Sheriff’s Office was investigating two accidents around 10:30 p.m. Friday. A deputy still was trying to determine who was driving a vehicle that wound up in a field on Route 23 south ofFriendshipVillagesouth of Ottawa earlier in the day, and deputies and Magnolia firefighters were called around 11 p.m. about a vehicle knocking down a utility pole and lines between Magnolia and Lostant.
