S. 2047 and H.R. 4325 — The Protecting Children from Electronic Cigarette Advertising Act of 2014 prohibits advertisement, promotion, or marketing in commerce of electronic cigarettes in a manner that is known, or should be known, to increase the use of electronic cigarettes by children under the age of 18. S. 2047 filed Feb. 26, 2014, by U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and six cosponsors including U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). H.R. 4325 filed March 27, 2014, by U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D-Conn.).
State Bills Senate Bill 2852 — Allows a search warrant to be issued by e-mail. Filed Feb. 4, 2014, by Sen. Michael Connelly (R-Wheaton). Passed the Senate 52-0 on March 4. Passed the House 99-0 on May 9.
Senate Bill 2968 — Nursing homes must submit closure plans to the Department of Public Health outlining the “safe and orderly transfer” of current residents caused by facility closure. Filed Jan. 28, 2014, by Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Plainfield). Passed the Senate 44-0 on April 7. Passed the House 97-3 on May 9. Rep. Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) voted yes.
Senate Bill 2955 — People convicted of financially exploiting the elderly or disabled may not inherit from the victim’s estate. Filed Feb. 4, 2014, by Sen. Ira Silverstein (D-Chicago). Passed the Senate 53-0 on April 3. Passed the House 101-0 on May 9.
