A researcher and freelance reporter will be in Spring Valley on Thursday to talk to people who remember the Winter Dance Party rock and roll show of Feb. 7, 1959.

Sevan Garabedian, a Canadian researcher of the Winter Dance Party tour of 1959, and journalist Greg Harutunian from Illinois will interview fans who attended the show that day for a piece about all four Winter Dance Party shows that took place in Illinois.

The Winter Dance Party tour is famous for being the last tour of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, who all died in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959, following a performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. The tour continued with replacement singers Frankie Avalon, Jimmy Clanton and Fabian.

Garabedian urges fans who attended the show at the Les-Buzz Ballroom to get in touch with him so he can discuss details about their visit to town. He also hopes to visit the site of the ballroom with all the fans who attended the show 55 years ago.

Reward offered for photos from Spring Valley show
He also is offering a reward for anyone who may have photographs from the Winter Dance Party show 55 years ago at Les-Buzz in Spring Valley.

He can be reached at or at (514) 931-6959.
