Between 3-5 inches of snow are expected to accumulate today in eastern La Salle, western Bureau and Putnam counties, according to the National Weather Service Chicago.

“The heavy band of snow has moved out of La Salle County,” NWS spokesman Ben Deubelbeiss said from the office in Romeoville at 11:45 a.m. “It’s moving to the east.”

The snow began falling lightly in La Salle before 9 a.m. and was adversely affecting road conditions and visibility by around 9:45 a.m.

The snow showers are expected through the afternoon and will be ending by mid- to late afternoon, Deubelbeiss said.

Road conditions were less than ideal, as multiple accidents across the area were reported before noon Saturday.

“We’ve seen visibility from a quarter to about a half a mile; in some places, we’ve seen less,” Deubelbeiss said. “Visibility can change rapidly.”
