Each December, Illinois Valley residents get a chance to help Horizon House of the Illinois Valley help adults who have developmental disabilities.
The annual Tree of Hope campaign, one of the bigger annual fundraisers for the organization, begins Dec. 1.
Horizon House also provides training, job placement assistance, housing assistance for adults with developmental disabilities, as well as transportation for clients to appointments, jobs and stores.
This year’s goal in the Tree of Hope campaign is $40,000, which the organization uses for special equipment purchases, un-covered capital expenses and other costs that arise.
For each $50 donation, or contributions adding up to $50, Horizon House will light one more bulb during December. The campaign officially starts Dec. 1, said Carol Fesco, director of development.
Last year, a surprise $500 donation came in to allow Horizon House to have all 800 lights lit by Christmas.
Horizon House received assistance from the community for new strands of lights this year. Debo Hardware provided new cords, Horizon House clients put the bulbs in and Jim Potthoff and the Peru electric department helped hang the lights in the highest boughs of the tree.
Donations to Tree of Hope campaign can be mailed to Horizon House, 200 Plank Road, Peru, IL 61354 or dropped off at that same address 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.
