Two large groups of elementary students attended a Veterans Day ceremony Monday at Washington Park, Peru.

Students from nearby Washington School and from Dimmick school north of Peru attended the 15-minute observance by Peru Veterans Memorial Group.

Veterans group member Jack Landgraf delivered a benediction and a history of Veterans Day, which observes the cease-fire of 1918 and end to World War I.
“Think about your grandparents and great-grandparents that lived in that period of time,” he said.

Veterans group member Bob Ankiewicz read a list of Peru veterans who died this year, including Korean War veteran Robert Pezanoski, who died Oct. 30. Pezanoski’s wife, Catherine, attended Monday’s ceremony.
