Bond set at $2 million after heroin seizure

Tom Collins
NewsTribune Senior Reporter

OTTAWA — A California man is being held on $2 million following an interstate heroin seizure — a potentially large one — conducted Oct. 9 but not yet disclosed by La Salle County’s drug interdiction unit.

Alfonso A. Avila-Cisneros, 55, of 3285 Seminole Ave., Lynwood, Calif., is charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (heroin) with intent to deliver, a Class X felony carrying 6-30 years with no possibility of probation.

The charge was disclosed through a La Salle County Circuit Court filing indicating police seized at least 15 but not more than 100 grams of purported heroin. La Salle County Jail records further indicate Avila-Cisneros was apprehended by the La Salle County State’s Attorney Felony Enforcement Team, a drug interdiction unit that patrols the freeways.

There was no issuance of a police report on the nine-day-old apprehension, and state’s attorney Brian Towne declined comment on the pending case.

Avila-Cisneros remains held in La Salle County Jail. He needs to post $200,000 in cash to be released from custody.
