DePue needs residents to fill out survey

Kim Shute
Bureau County Reporter

DEPUE — DePue Village President Eric Bryant is asking residents for assistance in obtaining grant money for upcoming community development projects.

At Monday’s meeting, Bryant spoke to the board about the importance of acquiring grant money to fund needed improvements in the village. Bryant said one potential source of funds is a Community Development Assistance Program administered by Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The program has provided grant money to the village in the past.

Bryant said all residents need to do is fill out and return a brief, simple form mailed to them by the village. The results of that survey will determine the amount of funds the village may be eligible for. Names and exact incomes are not required — residents are only asked to indicate if their household income falls above or below certain income guidelines.

The village is required to get 75 percent participation in the survey in order to qualify, and Bryant emphasized failure to participate could jeopardize DePue’s chances of getting a grant. Anyone needing assistance filling out or obtaining the survey is encouraged to contact village clerk Jane Vickers.

* Village trustees approved a request to match $3,000 donated by DePue Men’s Club for the Save the Lake Fund.

* DePue will participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency on Oct. 26. Anyone who wishes to participate may dispose of prescription drugs by taking them to DePue Police Department, 111 W. Second St., between the hours of 9 a.m and noon. A DePue police officer will be at the station to assist with the drop-off.
