Ever wanted to watch movies-on-demand on the screen of your treadmill or elliptical?

You can now at the Illinois Valley Y.

The YMCA announced the purchase and installation of six new workout machines from the Discover series, a cutting-edge brand that lets people surf the Internet or watch a wide array of content while working up a sweat.

The new machines were funded through a grant by Miller Group Charitable Trust. Miller Group Media includes the NewsTribune, Agri-News publications and radio stations AM-1220 & FM 103.9 WLPO/FM-99.3 WAJK/WLWF 96.5.

“The Miller Group Charitable Trust donation was instrumental in the purchase of the new Discover series,” said Dave Potthoff, chief executive officer of the Y.

“The Y and the Miller Group have been partners in helping all members of our community enjoy the benefits of healthy lifestyles,” he said. “Through the help of the Miller Group our local Y has been to add over $100,000 of the most modern exercise equipment available.”

Features of the Discover series include:

Personalized workouts: The new machines allow users to create custom workouts including hills, interval and calorie-burning challenges.

Personal identification technology: YMCA users can hop on and pull up preferred workouts and display settings.

Entertainment on demand: Members can watch any of thousands of entertainment options.

Joyce McCullough of Miller Group Charitable Trust said Miller Group Media has a long tradition of supporting the YMCA and encouraging wellness among area families.

“These amazing new features add an element of fun to workouts and should make it easier for families to encourage their loved ones to work out and stay fit,” McCullough said.
