La Salle County Board members Tuesday approved a $298,400 contract with Barbeck Communications Group, Inc. to complete overhaul the sheriff’s department’s existing VHF Motorola Radio System.
“This will be the best radio system coverage we’ve ever had,” Templeton said. “Owning our own system seems to be the best option for us.”
Once the system is in place, deputies will now have very few “dark zones” where handheld radios cannot receive a signal. Additionally, the new radios will allow deputies to use handheld radios to communicate with other departments.
“This offers us interoperability with other departments once deputies are outside of their squad cars,” Templeton explained. “It’s a tremendous safety factor for not only our office but other agencies.”
