Mark Lippert, vice president of sales and marketing for La Salle County Broadcasting, along with Taylor Albright, digital media consultant for Miller Group Media, hold their first place award 815Life.com from the Newspaper Business Development Contest.
815LIFE, the interactive website offered by the NewsTribune and La Salle County Broadcasting, was the top winner in the Inland Press Foundation’s Newspaper Business Development Contest. In an awards ceremony Aug. 9, 815LIFE was singled out for its unique and easy-to-use format. The interactive site, which went live in mid-March, offers news, weather, sports, classifieds, commercial advertisements (including daily specials) and community events from around the 815 area code. All features are accessible from any electronic device. The association also honored the NewsTribune with second- and third-place honors in the respective categories of vendor support and glossy publications, the latter for popular magazines including Elegant Living, Boomers and Tri-County Women. “We’re pleased and honored to be recognized not only for 815LIFE, an interactive website we’re proud of and which has exceeded all expectations, but also for the continued recognition of our printed product,” said Joyce McCullough, president of Miller Group Media, parent company of the NewsTribune as well as radio stations WLPO, WAJK and 96.5 the WOLF. “We’re delighted Inland Press Foundation has recognized our ongoing efforts to better serve the Illinois Valley area,” she said. Miller Group Media has steadily expanded its online offerings to provide the same excellent content available through the NewsTribune and over the airwaves. 815LIFE represents the most ambitious and successful online venture to date. Through 815LIFE, area residents can scan for breaking news, check out daily lunch specials, scroll through TV listings and look for community and other special events happening on the weekends. “People are curious as to what 815LIFE is and when you show it to them they’re very impressed,” said Mark Lippert, vice-president of sales for La Salle County Broadcasting. “I’m hearing positive comments when I’m out and about at community events, and from people who are excited to see their photos and coverage of their events posted online.” “We couldn't be happier with where 815LIFE is and how it has grown,” said Scott Stavrakas, NewsTribune vice president of sales and marketing. “It is building a strong following of loyal users and traffic to the site has grown each and every month. To win first place in the country from Inland Press for Best New Online product is icing on the cake.”
