Sweet Corn Festival has corn recipe, cooking contest

MENDOTA — The Sweet Corn Festival Food Contest returns this year on Aug. 10 in Mendota. The contest is open to creative cooks who are ready to dish up some flavorful entries using sweet corn as the main ingredient.

Contestants must prepare all the food before the contest begins at 2 p.m. Entries must be brought to the Mendota Elks Lodge, 707 Indiana Ave., Mendota between 1:15 - 1:45 p.m. All entries must include a recipe card for the judges.

The grand prize winner will receive $250 in Mendota gift certificates. Other prizes will be award to the runner-up, Queen’s choice, most creative and best presentation.

Applications are available at the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce office, 800 Washington Street, Mendota, or on the festival website, www.sweetcornfestival.com or by calling (815) 539-6507. The festival runs Aug. 8 - 11 with most events in downtown Mendota.

Is any of this corn organic?
The dangers of GMO corn are many, and evidence of health concerns are mounting about the effects globally, medically and financially.
Small family owned organic farms are much preferred by the health conscious.
I would like to see more of them.
