Peru man faces up to 4 years for child porn

Tom Collins
NewsTribune Senior Reporter

A Peru man pleaded guilty Friday to possessing child pornography and faces up to 4 years when he is sentenced July 26.

Ronald R. Mistarz, 39, of 1711 Chicago St. entered a blind plea to two counts of aggravated child pornography, a Class 2 felony carrying a possible sentence of 3-7 years in prison.

In exchange for his plea, prosecutors agreed to cap a sentencing recommendation at no more than 4 years in prison when Mistarz is sentenced July 26 before Chief Judge H. Chris Ryan Jr. Mistarz will have an opportunity to address the court at that hearing.

Mistarz was charged Dec. 18 with downloading and child pornography after an investigation involving five law enforcement agencies.

Peru police detectives, working with investigators from the La Salle and Will County states attorneys’ offices, Channahon police and the U.S. Secret Service, executed a search warrant at Mistarz’s home and seized two computers bearing illicit images Mistarz admitted downloading.
