Event organizers this week still were calculating costs and revenue from St. Bede Academy’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
“A Night at the Academy” certainly was among five biggest in terms of income in the 30 years of the annual St. Bede auction galas, said Bonnie Prokup, auction coordinator.
She was glad to see a lot of new families and first-time auction-goers at this year’s event. Also, some new fundraising ideas were highly successful. A “wine pull” — where SBA supporters bought $25 numbers and in return for their donation received one of 100 donated bottles of wine — sold out within two hours. And the band, Jimminion and the Kid, including recent St. Bede graduate Dylan Torres, had the auction-goers dancing.
“I really was excited by how much fun everybody had and the pride in St. Bede,” Prokup said.
Half the members of the class of 2013 helped in the annual appeal for direct donations, titled this year, “We’re All in This Together,” bringing in more than $40,000. Other top bid-getters included a bench built by superintendent Ted Struck ($2,000), a White Sox Diamond Suite for 30 ($2,100) and a stay for four couples at St. James Club and Villas in Antigua for $4,500.
