The Spring Valley Elementary Board of Education held a reorganization meeting on Wednesday as a result of the April 9 elections.
Board vice president Trisha Bogatitus swore in three returning board members Ray Nolasco, James Faletti and Ted Urbanski along with newly-elected Thomas Vallero and Tracy Morris, who won a two-year term with 139 votes.
The board also said goodbye to Greg Case and James Scarpaci. Nolasco presented the members with plaques and thanked them for their years of service. He added that Scarpaci had been asked to the board twice and was glad he was around for the school addition project. Nolasco also said he would miss having former board member Case around.
“You and I negotiated a fair amount of times,” Nolasco said with a laugh. He joked that Case was not necessarily the rational guy in the argument, but he would miss the exchanges.
The board then re-elected Nolasco as board president, Bogatitus as vice president and Jack Kusek as secretary.
Superintendent Jim Hermes also announced that the current district treasurer for the board will be resigning and the board would have to make an appointment soon. Nolasco said he wanted to appoint someone from the board, but Urbanski said having an outside member would be better. The board unanimously voted to post the position internally.
The board voted to continue having meetings at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays in the John F. Kennedy school library.
