River Valley March for Babies attracted 700 walkers from the La Salle-Peru, Ottawa and Streator areas to the Illinois Valley Y in Peru and raised $150,000, according to March of Dimes Heartland Division director Peggy Cain.
A couple of corporate teams that usually make major donations were unable to participate to the extent that they usually have, but area residents and businesses still came through for the cause.
“It’s still a great turnout. $150,000 in this area is just incredible,” Cain said. “It’s an amazing amount of money that comes in from this area; it’s generous.”
The top team, Miracles Happen III, led by Jennifer Sines, brought in more than $30,000 in pledges, and the top corporate team, Technisand, brought in more than $21,000.
