Manslaughter convict charged in bar fight

Tom Collins
NewsTribune Senior Reporter

OTTAWA — A La Salle man once imprisoned for his role in a fatal bar fight is charged with aggravated battery for a Dec. 16 fight in La Salle.
Bryan R. Tomaseski, 28, of 1596 Linden Ave. turned himself in Tuesday on a La Salle County warrant charging him with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony carrying 2-5 years in prison. He posted $5,000 in cash on $50,000 bond and was released.
Tomaseski will next appear March 28 before Associate Judge Daniel J. Bute. He is represented by Ottawa defense attorney Joe Navarro.
The charge was filed following an extended investigation into a Dec. 16 fight at Jake’s Pour House in La Salle, where the victim reportedly sustained only minor injuries. The charge is a felony because it occurred in a public place and because of Tomaseski’s criminal history.
In 2008, Tomaseski was sentenced to 3 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 25-year-old Andrew Sibley on Sept. 21, 2007, outside Two Fools in La Salle.
Tomaseski completed his prison time and was not on parole at the time of the Dec. 16 fight in La Salle.
