The event will be 5-11 p.m. Dec. 1 in Princeton at the Bureau County Fairgrounds’ Allen Building. A bean bag tournament will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the benefit dinner at 5 p.m. There will be a silent auction, a live auction and a DJ. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children.

When two of the Wyanet boy’s classmates told their mothers what their friend was going through, the two women took action and formed the “Going the Distance For Devin” committee. Headed up by Shari Marquez and Sarah Sights, the group is reaching out to the public in hopes of raising money to help with Cole’s medical expenses.

At the beginning of October, Cole was diagnosed with a brain tumor and in mid-October underwent surgery to have it removed. However, due to the dangerous location of the tumor, doctors were only able to remove approximately 10 percent of it.

Cole’s parents then turned to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital hoping doctors would be able to perform the delicate procedure that would bring their son back to health.

But, according to Marquez, “They (St. Jude) have never seen anything like this.”

Now Cole spends Mondays through Fridays in a Chicago hospital receiving treatment and will only be able to come home on weekends.

“It’s going to be a long road,” said Marquez, who could not confirm how long Cole will have to receive treatment.

Committee members say they are grateful for donations of any size.
