For years, Hal Entwistle would set up a haunted house in his garage in Spring Valley, and meanwhile, his grown-up sisters, Sarah Barnes and Rachel Corsale of Spring Valley, would hand out candy at their mom’s house in Peru.

This Halloween, Entwistle took his show on the road, and actually was the show.

Entwistle crafted a nearly 9-foot-tall creepy costume for himself to wear to haunt his old neighborhood at Seventh and Harrison streets. He made it and shaped it from foam, plastic, cardboard, carpenter’s stilts, crutches, gauze, clips and various supplies and then donned a toothy, skeletal mask that he altered to complete the effect.

As he was putting on the outfit, his mother, Myrna Entwistle, joked repeatedly about all the time he’d expended on the costume.

“I’ve been hinting about them doing my bathroom. If they put this much effort into my bathroom, it would be done in three days,” Entwistle said.
