IVCC vindicated in federal complaint

A federal complaint filed against Illinois Valley Community College has been dropped. The complaint had alleged high-ranking administrators refused a former security employee an opportunity for advancement on the basis of gender and as retaliation against previously filed work grievances.
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced Thursday that there was not enough evidence to prove high-ranking members of the IVCC administration violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 through creating an environment of retaliation, bullying, misconduct and favoritism within the security division of campus.
“From the very beginning of this investigation, we maintained the college did nothing wrong and now our position has been vindicated,” said IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.
The NewsTribune first reported the story in May 2011, around the same time the administration was proposing to hire a private security agency to replace its on-campus security.
Peru resident Crystal Loughran, a former security guard at IVCC, originally filed the complaint and came to the NewsTribune with documents and character witnesses that vouched for her complaint.
Loughran could not immediately be reached for comment.
