Oglesby 'eyesore' to come down soon

Tom Collins
NewsTribune Senior Reporter

Oglesby is just close to knocking down a vacant building at 211 E. Walnut St.

Monday, the city council voted 4-1 to acquire title from registered owner Don Shields. Next time the council meets, they’ll likely award a contract (low bid: $18,250 by Schemel-Tarrillion, Inc. of Perryville, Mo.) to remove the asbestos. Some time thereafter, the building comes down.

When asked what the property would be used for, Mayor Don Finley said it would be a vacant lot.

“At least the eyesore (will be) down,” Finley said.
