Trimesters instead of semesters this year in Peru school district

Jeff Dankert
Staff Writer

Students and parents will see a few changes this fall in Peru Elementary School District, including a year based on trimesters instead of semesters.

The school year will be split into three 12-week trimesters with six report cards, one for each trimester and one for each midterm, superintendent Mark Cross said.

This replaces eight report cards in the semester system, four report cards each semester, he said.

This will reduce time spent data-crunching and issuing reports, Cross said.

Parents can access their kids’ grades every day at

The district hired new replacements so there will be a lot of new faces this year, Cross said.

There will be three evening parent-teacher conferences in November for all students and one evening conference in February to accommodate a second meeting or for a parent request.

Classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 20 with early 2 p.m. dismissal. The last day of school, barring severe weather cancellations, will be May 20 — earlier than usual, to allow time for the completion of the Northview renovation and addition in the summer of 2015.
