STERLING — State police are searching for a Rockford man suspected in two slayings — a Rockford man and Monticello woman — and who last was seen at a rest stop on Interstate 39 near Paw Paw.
Terence Doddy, 36, of Rockford is the suspect in the June 30 death of Todd Hansmeier, 37, of Rockford. And in a news release issued Wednesday, police indicated Doddy also is suspected in the Tuesday death of Tonya D. Bargman, 44, of Monticello at the Willow Creek Rest stop near Paw Paw.
Police said Bargman was discovered around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday by a rest stop attendant.
“Investigators have reviewed surveillance video from the rest stop and have determined that (Bargman) exited the rest room and was attacked by a male subject,” police said.
The subject in question is thought to be Doddy, who was observed leaving the scene in Bargman’s car, a gray 2013 Nissan Altima, bearing Illinois license plates BARGMN 2. Investigators have issued law enforcement alerts nationwide.
“Anyone with any information is urged to contact 911 or the ISP Zone 2 office at (815) 632-4010,” police said. “Law enforcement officials are also urging the public to take the necessary safety precautions when visiting rest stop areas.
