The band concert is just a tune up for plenty of music this week during Oglesby Summer Fun Fest, which goes into full swing Thursday in the park area around the municipal swimming pool on East Walnut Street. Thursday’s acts include a Credence Clearwater Revival tribute band 6-9 p.m. and well-traveled Elvis impersonator later that night. Oglesby Summer Fun Fest will be June 26-29 on the municipal pool grounds on the east side of town.
Parking is free and there is no gate or entry fee. There will be food, music, entertainment and attractions. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for the entertainment, acts and shows.
Thursday’s events on the pool grounds start at 5 p.m. with pony rides, a beer garden, carnival, food booths, a clown, music by the Fortunate Sons 6-9 p.m. and Shawn Klush and the Fabulous Ambassadors at 9 p.m.
Friday’s events start at 5 and include country music acts, the Mason Rivers Band at 5 p.m. and Brass Buckle Band 8-11 p.m., with 12-ounce beers served in Red Solo cups all night.
Saturday’s events include registration at 6:30 a.m. for the 8:30 a.m. Art Sarver 3-Mile Run, followed by morning garage sales, craft show, library used book sale at the Dickinson House, 1:30 p.m. Kids Party in the Park, boxing at 1:30 p.m. and the 9 a.m. unveiling of the Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall, a military vehicles display, Veterans Mobile Medical Unit and Veterans Mobile Readjustment counseling services avalable.
Saturday’s musical acts include the U.S. Navy ensemble Horizon at noon, Air National Guard “Permanent Party” at 1:30 p.m., the Glory Days musical tribute to Springsteen 5-8 p.m. and the 8-11 p.m. performances by Lance Lipinsky and the Lovers, featuring honky-tonk, boogie-woogie rock & roll. Lance Lipinsky comes to Oglesby direct from hit musical “Million Dollar Quartet” in Chicago.
A 50/50 drawing will be at 9 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $1 each or $5 for six tickets at the city hall and at Summer Fun Fest.
Sunday’s events include a bags tournament at 10 a.m. (For information, call 815-712-2071); firefighter water fights at noon, food booths and carnival 1-9:30 p.m., Dave DiNaso’s Traveling World of Reptiles at 1:30 p.m., The Chicago Boyz Acrobatic Team, an “America’s Got Talent” 2013 semifinalist at 3 p.m., free sundaes at 2 p.m.; Zumba at 4:30 and fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
