Peru to close some streets to move snow tonight

A pile of snow dwarfs two semitrailers in a shopping district on the north side of Peru. Businesses that have big parking lots have plenty of places to put piles of snow. But in downtown Peru and near the Peru fire station along West Street, the city of Peru is going to have to close streets for a few hours, scoop up snow and truck it farther from high-traffic areas.NewsTribune photo/Craig Sterrett

The city of Peru will close U.S. 6 between Calhoun and West streets between 7 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday in order to remove piles of snow from along sidewalks and parking lots.

At the same time, Peru’s public works department also will close Peoria Street between Fifth and Third streets, and West Street between Fifth and Third streets for the same purpose.

Friday night, the city may close U.S. 6 from West Street eastward to St. Louis Street, also between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., according Jeff King, co-superintendent of public works.
