A 21-year-old Peru woman was listed in good condition with multiple injuries Monday afternoon after being thrown through the window of a small car after a two-car crash that brought ambulances, firefighters and extra salt trucks for Route 251 north of the Oglesby spur around 3 p.m. Friday.
Drivers of both vehicles involved in the collision were injured and transported to Illinois Valley Regional Hospital, said Oglesby fire chief Ron Popurella. Peru firefighters used extrication equipment to pop open a door and free the driver of a pickup that careened into the east ditch after the crash.
The driver of the small car involved in the crash, Josie E. Malone, 21, of 915 Rock St., Peru was listed in good condition Saturday afternoon in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
The driver of the pickup, Laverne L. Kreiser, 76, told deputies he was northbound on Route 251 when the car driven by Malone spun out on the snow- and ice-covered road, according to La Salle County Sheriff's Office. The Malone vehicle struck the Kreiser vehicle, according to Kreiser and a witness who also was driving on Route 251 at the time of the crash.
Malone was thrown out of the car through a window, according to the county sheriff's report.
There were no passengers in either vehicle involved in the crash. Both Kreiser and Malone were taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru. From there, Malone was flown to Peoria.
Oglesby police closed off Route 251 south of the accident scene, which was to the west of Illinois Valley Community College, and Peru police and La Salle County deputies were at the scene and had southbound traffic blocked.
