Rosenow becomes third Republican running for BC sheriff

NT Staff

SHEFFIELD — William A. Rosenow of Sheffield has announced his Republican candidacy for Bureau County Sheriff. Rosenow currently is in his 18th year serving as mayor of Sheffield. He said his love for police work and helping others is the reason he feels he is the right candidate for sheriff.

The crowded field for sheriff now includes Republicans Allan Beaber, James Shipp and Rosenow and Democrat James Reed.

Rosenow said he has received calls from around the county asking him to get involved and run for the position. Rosenow retired from the state police after 32 years to take an interim one-year appointment as Bureau County sheriff to fill the position left by sheriff Greg Johnson. In the state police, Rosenow was sergeant and District 17 range master and fleet supervisor.

Rosenow said his year as appointed sheriff was very interesting and a great experience. Rosenow served 14 years on the Western School Board and was a member of Lions club and Sheffield Rescue for 30 years.

He graduated from Western High School and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He is currently HF Hortz American Legion Post 415 commander and current adjutant. He has been in the legion for 46 years.

Rosenow also is a member of Princeton Moose Lodge. He attended junior college at Illinois Valley and Sauk Valley and got his associate’s degree from Black Hawk East. Rosenow served on Bureau County zoning board for several years.
He is a member of the Methodist church.

He is married to the former Mary Jo Hewitt and they have three grown daughters.
