10/30/2013 5:44:00 AM Utica ready for veterans parade, memorial wall arrival Sunday
A traveling veterans memorial wall is among the new features this year at the seventh annual Utica Veterans Day parade and air show. The Illinois Patriot Guard Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial Wall will be on display Sunday, Nov. 3 starting at 9 a.m. at the Utica Community Hall, where there will be additional displays. A brunch for veterans will be served before the parade lineup. Introductions start at 12:30 p.m., and the parade starts at 1 p.m. All are welcome to participate. There is no entry fee or admission charged. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. A 21-gun salute and “taps” are scheduled following the parade, and after that, Chicago Police Bagpipe Band will play “Amazing Grace.” Utica American Legion Piece Davis Post 731 hosts one of the Midwest’s biggest parades in honor of veterans for Veterans Day, with hundreds of entries, ranging from veterans groups and color guards to motorcycle groups such as the American Legion Riders and Starved Rock chapter of ABATE (A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education). A Navy Avenger flyover is scheduled, as is the Lima Lima Air Show. Other entries on the way to Utica are the 144th Army Band, Quad Cities Military Vehicle Preservation Group, floats and more. For more information, contact Utica American Legion post commander Dana Hyson at firstname.lastname@example.org or (815) 274-4123.
