Mendota Save-A-Lot construction delayed

MENDOTA — The future of Save-A-Lot in Mendota has hit a snag, according to Scott Sullivan, owner of the local business.
The company tore down the existing store on 13th Avenue and Meriden Street last December with plans to construct a new store this spring.
Scott Sullivan, owner of the local Sullivan’s Foods and Save-A-Lot, said the company has hit a snag with plans for developing the property and cannot give any construction estimates.
“I just can’t answer that,” he said. “We’re still struggling with that whole process.”
Sullivan said the current economy has affected plans for the store. They are still considering the future of the property as well as the size for a new store.
“There’s some decisions we have to do as far as size,” he said. “It’s taking longer than we expected.”
Rumors that the company would abandon plans for the property are not true, he added.
“It’s too good a corner,” he said.
City clerk and economic development coordinator Emily McConville said the city has not been in discussions with Sullivan for several months, but she anticipates the store will be built eventually.
“We’re still hoping it’s all on track,” she said.
