Wenona approves vicious dog ordinance, allows golf carts on streets

NT Staff

WENONA — Wenona City Council this week approved “A Golf Cart and Gator Type Ordinance” that will allow golf carts and small work vehicles — not recreational all-terrain vehicles — on city streets as long as the user follows traffic laws and additions to the city code.

Also, police chief Tom Martin addressed the council on his concerns of a needed revision of the current Title 5: Police Regulations Ord-inance. After discussion, the council voted to pass an amendment to the current police ordinance to revise Chapter 2: Animals.

However, a committee will meet later in the month to review and replace definitions under the ordinance with one revision including a section on dangerous and vicious animals.

The categorization of a dog as vicious could take place after different sorts of incidents. In addition, the new ordinance would make the owners of the dogs more liable in case of attacks. The city is trying to be more proactive in dealing with property owners who allow renters to bring vicious dogs into town, city administrator Bill Simmons said.
