Flute Day to finish on high note with South American flair

A 7 p.m. concert featuring Venezuelan flutist Marco Granados and friends will cap off the sixth annual Flute Day will be 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at La Salle-Peru Township High School’s Matthiesssen Auditorium.

All-day participants in the Flute Day’s hands-on workshops for all ages will get in free to the concert.

Tickets for the concert, sponsored by Miller Group Charitable Trust, will be available at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The workshop participants of all ages and ability levels can learn from Patricia George, Conn-Selmer Inc. clinician and artist; Granados. Sue Gillio is coordinating the event. For information, call (815) 223-4408 or visit www.musicsuite408.com.
The evening concert will take on a Latin flair.

Granados, a recent winner of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011 competition, maintains an active international career as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher. His repertoire spans from classical to folk, with an emphasis on Latin-American music as his specialty.

As a founding member of the Amerigo Ensemble, The Camerata Latinoamericana and the Granados/Abend Duo, Granados’ collaborations also include those with The Cuarteto Latinoamericano, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and with such distinguished artists as Paquito D’Rivera, flutist Ransom Wilson, harpist Nancy Allen, oboist Heinz Holliger, flutist William Bennett, as well as with soprano Renee Fleming and baritone Dwayne Croft.

Also featured is Carlos Capacho, who has developed an impressive musical career as soloist “Cuatro Venezuelan”. His command of Cuatro and impeccable technique has earned him the recognition of important musicians international and led him to explore various scenarios within and outside Venezuela. He is considered, in the opinion of experts, one of the best (Cuatro Player) performers internationally.   Their music has allowed him to performances in different stages of the world such as Mexico, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, China, Peru, France, United States, Holland, Portugal, Brazil and Panama.

Joining them will be Roberto Koch, born in Caracas, who is considered one of the most versatle bassists in Venezuela.

He has appeared on more than 50 recordings and is currently producing an album for the virtuoso trumpeter Francisco “Pacho” Flores, scheduled for release in 2013.
