Marshall-Putnam ROE change likely - in 2015

Staff Writer

LACON — Marshall County Board recently learned more about the future of the regional office of education.

Phyllis Glazier, Marshall-Putnam-Woodford regional office of education superintendent, said the state has mandated that the 44 regional offices in Illinois must be reduced to 35 offices. No changes are expected to take place until July 1, 2015, Glazier said.

Marshall County has the option of joining three main regions — Tazewell County, La Salle County or Bureau-Henry-Stark, she said.

Woodford is considering joining Tazewell County, she said. At this point, Putnam County would likely join La Salle County, Glazier said.

Glazier said it would probably be best if Marshall County went with La Salle County also, but that it is a complicated subject.

“It’s a ton to think about,” she said.

The topic wouldn’t likely be voted on by the county board until at least January.
