La Salle shop loses entire inventory after soot damage

Kelley Cawley Boutique in downtown La Salle is closed temporarily after Friday’s fire in the building immediately west of the store caused soot damage to its merchandise.

“Our entire inventory is a loss,” the First Street boutique’s owner, Kelley Cawley, wrote in a post Monday on the store’s Facebook page.

Cawley plans to reopen the store, but said it is too early to tell when that will happen.

“We’re just rebuilding,” Cawley told the NewsTribune. “We’re in the process of putting together a plan to try to get back together.”

None of the shop’s former inventory will remain.

“When we open, it’ll be a completely new inventory — nothing will be salvaged,” Cawley said.

Cawley said the store’s employees will continue to work to help rebuild the business.

“No one is out of a job,” she said. “We’re all banding together.”

Cawley looks forward to reopening the boutique when its inventory is replaced.

“Hopefully, we’ll be even better,” she said. “Sometimes, I think a challenge makes you stronger.”
