Unemployment falls in Illinois Valley

Compared to 2012, August local unemployment rates fell in eight of 12 metropolitan areas in the state, according to preliminary data released Thursday by Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The Ottawa-Streator “micropolitan” labor area saw 10 percent unemployment this August, compared to 10.7 percent in 2012.
Bureau County unemployment was 1.3 percent less than in August 2012 at 8.6 percent; La Salle County’s percent went from 11 percent down to 10.4 percent and Putnam County’s rate was about the same this August as last August (9.1 percent in 2013, 9.2 in 2012).
