Walter Piascyk, 90, of Spring Valley died at 11:31 a.m. March 4, 2014, in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Parish of the Nativity of Our Lord (Mautino Drive location), Spring Valley. The Rev. Robert Spilman will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery, La Salle. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the church. Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is assisting the family. He was born April 3, 1923, in DePue to Theodore and Antonia (Novak) Piascyk. He married Mildred Urban on May 17, 1952, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. He served in the Army in World War II (1943-46) in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and New Guinea. He received two Bronze Stars. He was a member of DePue VFW and Parish of the Nativity of Our Lord. He worked at New Jersey Zinc in DePue for 33 years. He then retired from Hall High School, where he worked as a janitor for 15 years. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mildred Piascyk, of Spring Valley; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
