Stanley M. Mirtich, 85, formerly of La Salle died Nov. 12, 2012, in Heritage Health Care, Peru.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Hyacinth Church, La Salle, with the Rev. Antonio Dittmer, pastor of La Salle Catholic Parishes officiating. Burial will be at St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery in La Salle with full military services by La Salle/ Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday and 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday in Hurst Funeral Home, La Salle. A wake service will be conducted on Friday at 6:30.

Mr. Mirtich was born Nov. 12, 1927, in La Salle to Vincent and Dorothy (Kulovec) Mirtich. He married Barbara Barron on Oct. 7, 1950.

He was a carpenter and also worked at Graphic Electronics. After high school he worked at the Seneca shipyards and then enlisted in the Merchant Marines and then the US Navy from 1946-1948.

Mr. Mirtich was a member of St. Roch’s and St. Hyacinth Church, SNPJ Lodge No. 2, Ladd Moose and Honorary Member of Fish n Fun in McNabb.  He was an avid Sox and Bear fan, L-P sports supporter and Sterling United Soccer Club.

He is survived by one son, Michael (Vanessa) Mirtich of Weedville, Pa.; four daughters, Diane (George) Sheffer of Carbondale, Pattie (Robert) Dawe of Granville, Karen (Brian) Lowe of Brooklyn, Mich., and Julie (Scott) Gearing of Sterling; grandchildren Tammy Brown, John Mirtich, Lisa Och, Amanda and Doug Sheffer, Amber, Bobby and Gina Dawe, Bruce and Anna Ladzinski, Abby Boehlke, and Carter, Lauren and Cooper Gearing; great-grandchildren Garrett Beatty, Kaydence Brown, Harper Dawe and Colin Mirtich.

He was preceded in death by his wife on March 3, 1994; three sisters, Dorothy Christianson, Justine Persha, and Gale Gens; and two brothers, Vince and Frank Mirtich.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.
